Jellystone (IRE)

Jellystone

Colt, 2 yrs
Sire: Kodiac (GB)
Dam: Scholarly (GB)
Trainer: Ralph Beckett

Will Kodiac be able to emulate Pivotal and make the transition from sire of speed horses to sire of middle distance Group One performers? The conviction that he may be able to do so convinced Jeremy to buy this colt, a conviction that was validated in short order when Kodiac's son, Best Solution, won the Caulfield Cup only five days later. He overcame a nightmare draw and displayed resolute staying power to do so.

This colt has the physique and action more characteristic of middle-distance performers. He has a pedigree to match.

A combination of the above factors led other buyers, perhaps more familiar with the sire's precocious, sprinting offspring, to overlook the claims of this colt, whom we were able to procure at Book One of Newmarket's yearling sales.

The pedigree is very strong. The dam's side is of the highest order. The third dam is the dam of Street Cry, at one stage the most expensive sire in USA. His dam in turn was by the great Troy, whose own sire, Petingo, defied his own pigeon-holing as a confirmed miler to sire winners of both Epsom classics.

This is a forward going colt, loose, athletic, with an easy action and bold outlook.
