Archie McKellar (IRE)

Colt, 2015
Sire: Archipenko (USA)
Dam: Desert Berry (USA)
Trainer: Ralph Beckett

Archie McKellar was bought by Jeremy Brummitt for a modest £25,000 at Goffs Doncaster sales in 2016. We believed the sire was under-rated and the horse showed the scope to be a late-developing two year old, who would mature as a three year old.

A promising introduction at Salisbury was followed by a tremendous third at Ascot, where he was beaten by two classy Frankel colts, fading a bit in the final furlong having looked a big danger one out.

He duly won his maiden at Kempton earning a tilt at the Group Three Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury. He traded odds on in running there before finishing a very close fourth, earning a rating of 103.

The horse would have had Royal Ascot ambitions. However the syndicate members accepted a lucrative offer from Hong Kong, which they re-invested in another Archipenko colt, whom Jeremy bought in Germany. The new horse is called Nivaldo and is also trained by Ralph Beckett. The story continues.....
