Having worked alongside some of Australia’s leading trainers, Danny O’Brien took out his license in 1995 and began a stable with one horse at Epsom called Mat Hatter.
Mad Hatter gave Danny O’Brien his first Metropolitan winner at Sandown before going on to run sixth in the 1996 Australian Guineas behind Flying Spur.
It was in 2001 that O’Brien trained his first Group 1 winner when Porto Roca took out the 2001 Coolmore Classic.
The Flemington based trainer is not afraid to travel with his horses preparing Group 1 winners in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney and placing with Star Witness in the King Stand Stakes and Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot. He trains out of a state of the art bespoke training facility at Barwon Heads, as well as having facilities at Flemington Racecourse.
